European Union Foreign Ministers have agreed to ease sanctions against Syria. “This is a good news for the people in Syria”said German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) to journalists.
It is, however, also a “good news”for the Europeans, “because we in our own neighborhood naturally need reconstruction and thus more security”Baerbock emphasized.
“Sanctions against the Assad clan and its henchmen will remain in force. Crimes must be investigated, perpetrators brought to account”the Green politician stressed. “We, as Europeans, are also making a contribution – and especially as Germans”the minister said. “That’s why we will make available an additional three million euros from the German side for the work of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Syria”she announced.
