According to the head of the Forsa opinion research institute, Manfred Güllner, the recent fatal stabbing in Aschaffenburg serves as a warning against misdirected election campaigns. Güllner told the Handelsblatt that the AfD could potentially benefit from a renewed focus on migration in the short term.
Güllner emphasized that it would be a mistake to solely focus on the topic of migration, as this could inadvertently help the AfD. “If that happens and the topic of economy is neglected, then it only helps the AfD”he said.
Insa’s head, Hermann Binkert, estimates the AfD’s maximum voter potential at around 25 percent. “This will not be significantly altered by such tragic events like the one in Aschaffenburg”Binkert told the newspaper.
For the Union, Binkert sees potential benefits, particularly in the area of “inner security”. CDU and CSU have a high level of competence in this area, according to Binkert and can sharpen their profile in a credible manner. “If they do so, it will help them”he said.
Binkert believes that the public is expecting solutions and democratic parties should not allow themselves to be divided on the issue of migration once again. “They must act in consensus”he said.
