The tragicomedy “Anora” won the top prize, the Golden Palm, at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024. The US production tells the story of a stripper’s relationship with the son of a Russian oligarch. The film premiered in German cinemas on October 31, 2024, with Borisov playing the role of Igor, a henchman of the oligarch.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film “Emilia Pérez” leads the list of nominees for the Academy Award, with a total of 13 nominations in various categories. Other strong contenders include the films “Der Brutalist”, the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown”, and the thriller “Konklave”. “Anora” is also nominated in the categories of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.
The announcement of the nominations for the 2025 Oscar was originally set for January 17, but was postponed due to the aftermath of the devastating fires in Los Angeles. The award ceremony for the winners will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood on March 2.
