A German politician, Sahra Wagenknecht, the head of the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), has called for a “concerted action” for the deportation of individuals with a duty to leave the country, in the wake of a deadly knife attack in Aschaffenburg, allegedly carried out by a man from Afghanistan who was supposed to leave the country. Wagenknecht stated to the Welt newspaper that the federal government, states, and municipalities should agree on a concerted action for the deportation of individuals with a duty to leave the country, as it is no longer acceptable for there to be further victims of violent individuals and overwhelmed authorities.
Those who have been rejected and are criminal asylum seekers should be “consequently deported”, according to Wagenknecht, a step that has been missed under the current government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, both from the Social Democratic Party (SPD).
“After the horrific act in Aschaffenburg, it is not just a matter of expressing outrage from the political sphere, but rather a real turnaround in refugee policy is needed”, the BSW party chair said. The security and foreign authorities have lost control over those who enter Germany, Wagenknecht stated.
Only those who have not entered Germany via a safe third country and can prove this should, in the future, have any claim to an asylum procedure in Germany, Wagenknecht emphasized. “The protection of one’s own population must take precedence”, she said. “Therefore, Europe should finally create the prerequisites for a rule-of-law asylum procedure in safe third countries and at the EU’s external borders”.
