The President of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK), Irme Stetter-Karp, has sharply criticized the new US President Donald Trump in the face of his first decisions in office. “Executive orders, proclamations, memoranda by the dozen already on the first day in office: So rules an autocrat” she told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Wednesday editions).
“Donald Trump deliberately and calculatedly demonstrates that he locates the unbridled state power in himself. This fits in with the fact that he has pardoned over 1,500 people who were charged in connection with the storm on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. L’état, c’est moi – we are experiencing a new Sun King. But he does not spread sunbeams. Instead, he unleashes a sandstorm that covers and asphyxiates all life.”
Stetter-Karp added: “Europe must prepare itself well, take on even more responsibility for peace and human rights than before. Relying on the US President would be a strategic mistake. With him, one will only get into business – and this President views politics as a deal and nothing else, as long as interests can be linked.”
In the Middle East and in Ukraine, the USA under Trump may have an interest in peace, because it would benefit them, according to the ZdK President. However, on the basis of human dignity, justice, and a value-based world order, one cannot negotiate with Trump. “Because these concepts are not anchored in his DNA.
