Russian President Vladimir Putin held a video conference with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Tuesday morning. Putin praised the relations between Russia and China, emphasizing that “the joint work of Moscow and Beijing objectively plays a significant stabilizing role in international affairs.”
Both countries sought a multipolar world order, Putin added. He elaborated, “We are working together to build a fairer multipolar world order and ensuring the indivisible security of the Eurasian region and the world as a whole, in the interests of our countries and peoples.”
Putin also highlighted the foundation of their bilateral relations, built on the principles of friendship, mutual trust, and support, equality, and mutual benefit. The president stated that the development of their relations was not dependent on the political situation, but rather on the comprehensive strengthening of their ties, which fully corresponds to the goals of the integrated development of the two countries and the improvement of the well-being of their peoples.
According to Yuri Ushakov, a Russian presidential advisor, the discussion also touched on the implementation of larger joint energy projects, including the construction of a new gas pipeline route to the Far East, which is already underway. New initiatives, such as the gas pipeline project “Kraft Sibiriens 2” (in Russian, “Sila Sibiri”), are also being developed.
Ushakov reported that the one-hour and 35-minute conversation took place in a friendly atmosphere, and the meeting was not connected to the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, as the agreement had already been reached in December 2024.
