German Labor Unions Express Discontent with CSU’s Retirement Plans
Frank Werneke, the head of the Verdi labor union, recently expressed his concerns in an interview with Politico, stating, “The expansion of the mother’s allowance has no priority for me. There are more pressing challenges in the pension system.”
Werneke emphasized the need for swift action from the new government, warning that the retirement level will gradually decline by the middle of the year if no measures are taken. He emphasized the importance of stabilizing the retirement level at a minimum of 48 percent, which should be included in the 100-day program of the next coalition government.
The labor leader also highlighted the need for improvements in the basic pension, which would particularly benefit women.
