The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael Roth (SPD), believes that the approach of new US President Donald Trump in negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire can serve as a lesson for Europe. The very clear threats of consequences likely made a strong impression on Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, emphasizing that all parties must move forward. “And we in Europe can even learn from that” Roth said in an interview with RTL and ntv’s “Frühstart” on Monday.
“I get the impression that the Biden administration worked well with Trump on this issue. Perhaps the good relationship between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu also helped” the SPD politician said. “We must be vigilant in a world of warmongers, dictators, and freedom haters, and we must reposition ourselves as the homeland of liberal and social democracy” Roth added.
