Faeser Faces Off

In the debate over more stringent security laws, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser of the SPD is calling for the path to be cleared for the storage of IP addresses. Parliamentary business manager Thorsten Frei of the CDU told the Rheinische Post (Monday’s edition): “The interior minister should take a deep breath and finally break free from the obstructionist politics of the Greens in the interest of the security of the citizens.”

Frei added: “Even in the short time available, we could introduce minimum storage periods for IP addresses, particularly since the first reading in the Bundestag has already taken place.” The CDU politician further stated that in the event of a government majority, “we will exhaust the framework set by the ECJ and store further traffic and location data in specific cases”.
