According to a report by “Bild” (Saturday edition) citing numbers from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf), in the past year, the agency denied protection status to 168,000 asylum seekers. This means that more than half of the asylum applications were rejected, with a rate of 55.6 percent. The agency was particularly strict in rejecting applications from Turkish nationals, with a success rate of only 9.4 percent, down from 13 percent in 2023. In contrast, Syrians and Afghans generally received a positive response, with approval rates of 83 percent and 75 percent, respectively, in 2023.
As of the year-end, nearly 900,000 rejected asylum seekers were living in Germany, with around 304,000 of them being deportable.
