Belgian Football Federation Ends Partnership with Domenico Tedesco
The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) announced on Friday that it had decided to end its collaboration with Domenico Tedesco, the coach of the Belgian national football team, after a “detailed evaluation”. The decision was made due to the team’s performance in the European Championship and the subsequent Nations League matches.
Belgium had narrowly reached the round of 16 at the European Championship, where they were eliminated by France in a close match. The team’s recent results, including a series of losses, were cited as the reason for the termination of the partnership.
RBFA’s Chief Executive, Peter Willems, praised Tedesco’s initial success as national coach, stating, “Domenico has made a fantastic start as national coach, and he has proven that even after the departure of the previous generation, great things are still possible.” Willems also noted that Tedesco had integrated a number of young players into the team, and his successor will be able to build upon this foundation.
Tedesco, a former Bundesliga coach, expressed his good wishes to the players, the staff of the RBFA, and the fans, saying, “This team is still at the beginning of its development and will cause a stir in the coming years.” He took over as coach of the “Red Devils” in February 2023 and, until the European Championship, the team remained unbeaten under his leadership. However, since the tournament, the team has only managed one win and has suffered three consecutive losses.
