According to a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, the “Jung kauft Alt” program, which was launched in September 2024 with a budget of 350 million euros for subsidized KfW loans, has failed to meet expectations. By the end of December 2024, there were a total of 223 commitments, the spokesperson told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”.
The program, which began in September 2024, is aimed at people with at least one child who want to purchase a renovation-needing property. The program was expanded in early 2025 to also include historic buildings.
In contrast, the “Wohneigentum für Familien” program, which is also targeted at families, had a greater impact last year. In total, 4853 commitments were made in 2024, according to the ministry. By the end of 2023, when the program was launched on June 1, 2023, there were 1675 commitments. This program also has an annual budget of 350 million euros.
