The “Jung kauft Alt” program, launched in September 2024, is not meeting expectations, with only 223 commitments as of the end of December 2024, according to a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community. The program, which provides subsidized KfW loans for up to 350 million euros, was designed to support families with at least one child in purchasing a renovated property. Initially, the program was only available for families looking to buy a renovated property, but it was expanded in early 2025 to also include historic buildings.
In contrast, the “Wohneigentum für Familien” program, which targets families as well, has been more successful. In 2024, a total of 4,853 commitments were made, the ministry reported. As of the end of 2023, when the program was launched on June 1, 2023, there were 1,675 commitments, with a total of 350 million euros in funding available annually.
