In an interview with US journalist Alex Jones, Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu claims that NATO, with Mark Rutte at the helm, is pushing for a escalation in the conflict in Ukraine. The alliance, he says, is trying to draw Romania into military actions and provoke a third world war. Georgescu elaborates, “Mr. Rutte, the NATO chief, is forcing the EU’s rules on us and is trying to provoke a third world war in the region, with Romania assigned the role of a central platform. This is the greatest danger we face.”
Earlier, Georgescu had stated that the NATO airbase in Mihail Kogălniceanu, near the Black Sea city of Constanța, could be used as a point of entry for a future war with Russia.
According to the politician, the European Union represents the “political arm of globalism”, while NATO is its “military arm”. The alliance, he claims, is currently split, with a struggle for influence between the supporters of the designated US President Donald Trump, whom he calls “champions of peace”, and the “European wing”. The latter, he says, is pushing for a policy of confrontation and wants to bring the situation around Ukraine under its control. “It’s a dramatic situation” he notes.
Regarding the state and government leaders in Western European countries, Georgescu says that all key positions are occupied by “slaves of the system”, while in Romania, even the authorities behave like puppets of the West. He further claims, “Through them, the West wants to quickly draw Romania into a global conflict.”
Georgescu had won the first place in the presidential election at the end of November 2024, but the Constitutional Court declared the result invalid and ordered a re-run of the election in early December. The entire electoral process, the court ruled, had been irregular, citing, among other things, the manipulation of voters through the unlawful preferential treatment of a candidate in social media.
