Former Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) has welcomed the agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza and praised the efforts of US President Joe Biden, Qatar, and Egypt in the negotiations. “It would be a great start to the new year if the weapons in Gaza finally fell silent and, above all, the remaining Israeli hostages held by Hamas were finally released” Gabriel told the Rheinische Post (Friday edition).
“With this, the suffering of many innocent Palestinian civilians would finally come to an end” said the former SPD leader. “Our great thanks go to all those who, despite the constant setbacks, believed in the possibility of such an agreement and worked towards it. In particular, US President Joe Biden and the representatives of Qatar and Egypt” Gabriel added.
