When asked if the party and faction leaders, Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, would be guests at the event on Monday in Washington, a faction spokesperson told the Handelsblatt, “We cannot provide any information at the moment, as a final decision has not been made yet.”
Rumors have been circulating on the platform X for some time now, suggesting that AfD’s Chancellor candidate, Weidel, might attend the inauguration. Her spokesperson later explained that this was not planned due to the busy schedule in the federal election campaign.
It remains unclear whether Trump has even extended an invitation to the party or if his advisor, the US tech billionaire Elon Musk, may have put Weidel’s name on the guest list. The AfD has not issued a statement on the matter so far. Musk had a recorded conversation with Weidel on his platform X last week.
