'Healthcare's a Spending Problem, Not a Revenue One'!

Economist Martin Werding has sharply criticized the proposal by Green party’s chancellor candidate Robert Habeck to use capital gains for the financing of health insurance funds in the future.

“The German healthcare system has an expenditure problem, not an income problem” Werding told the Rheinische Post. According to him, in terms of economic output, it is one of the most expensive systems in the world, a member of the government’s economic advisory council noted.

“Expenses and contribution rates are rising sharply at the moment. The quality of services is good, but not outstanding. Additional funding sources would currently only cover up the need for reform” Werding said. “What the recent hospital reform brings, we need to wait and see. Priorities should be on measures to steer the behavior of service providers and also the insured” he added.
