German Politicians Criticize Government’s Nuclear Power Exit Plan

Leading politicians from the Union and FDP parties have criticized Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Economy Minister Robert Habeck for their alleged secret agreements on the nuclear power exit.

Jens Spahn, the deputy faction leader of the CDU/CSU faction in the Bundestag, told the “Tagesspiegel” that the nuclear power exit is “turning out to be more and more like a red-green show.” FDP Vice Wolfgang Kubicki said of Scholz and Habeck, “Apparently, both believe that deceiving and tricking belongs to the toolkit of politics.”

The background to this is a “Welt am Sonntag” investigation that suggests Scholz and Habeck secretly negotiated with each other in the autumn of 2022, bypassing FDP leader Christian Lindner. In a letter, Scholz ordered the continued operation of the remaining three nuclear power plants, citing his authority to set guidelines and thus resolving the dispute between the FDP and the Greens.

“Burgers have been misled multiple times” criticizes Spahn, and speaks of a “power play show.” He announced that Scholz and Habeck, who are scheduled to appear before a parliamentary investigation committee on the nuclear power exit on Thursday, “will have to answer many unpleasant questions.
