German air traffic control, DFS, reports an improvement in punctuality in the aviation sector. The delay numbers reduced by 30 percent in 2024 compared to the previous year and amount to nearly 50 seconds per flight, as announced by the DFS on Monday in Langen.
Last year, it had to deal with “challenging circumstances” such as the ongoing war in Ukraine, significantly increased regional air traffic, and an increase in adverse weather conditions, it was further stated. Delays caused by air traffic control typically occur due to limited capacities in the airspace. However, they only contribute to the overall delay in a minor extent.
With almost three million flights in the German airspace (2,969 million), the traffic numbers, according to the DFS, are still four percent above those of the previous year (2,838 million), but still below the peak values of the pre-Corona era (2019: 3,334 million flights).
According to the report, the busiest day was July 15, 2024, the day after the European Football Championship, with 9,979 flight movements in the German airspace and 754 takeoffs and landings at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
