In the aftermath of the CDU executive committee’s meeting in Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalian Minister-President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) reaffirmed the Union’s plans in security policy.
According to Wüst, who spoke to the “Rheinische Post”, those who reject data storage for the past 20 years with the same arguments have failed to understand how the internet has developed into a playground for child abusers and terrorists. He emphasized that it must be possible to combat terrorism and child abuse in the digital space.
During their two-day meeting, the Union decided on additional instruments for increased security. Among other measures, internet service providers will be required to store IP addresses for at least three months in cases of severe crimes such as child abuse. Wüst further stated, “The best service to the people is to make workplaces secure, our economy strong and Germany a safer place again.
