Omas against the Right” plan to attend the protests against the AfD’s federal party convention in Riesa, Saxony, in large numbers. “Democracy is endangered by this party, as it aims to hollow out and destroy it from within” said Jutta Shaikh, the second chair of the group, in an interview with the Frankfurter Rundschau.

Ten rallies have been approved to take place against the AfD’s party convention in Riesa. A rally with live music is planned in front of the WT Energiesysteme Arena, where the party convention will be held, starting at 9 a.m.

Shaikh advocated for a ban on the AfD, saying, “We must take the stage away from the AfD, we must take the money away from the AfD, we must take the influence away from the AfD.”

According to Article 21 of the German Constitution, parties that “pursue objectives or, in the behavior of their adherents, aim to restrict or abolish the free democratic basic order or to endanger the existence of the Federal Republic of Germany” are unconstitutional. The Federal Constitutional Court decides on the question of unconstitutionality, and a federal law regulates that the ban application can be filed by the Bundestag, the Bundesrat, or the federal government.
