The Greens are not giving up hope for a TV duel before the federal election, with their chancellor candidate Robert Habeck still in the running.
On Thursday, the party sent out a call to action to its supporters via its large email newsletter, asking them to share a video of Robert Habeck on social media and sign a petition.
“‘Many years, the black and red have thought they could do everything on their own and manage the status quo’ it says in the call to action, and: ‘ARD and ZDF should not be limited to Friedrich Merz and Olaf Scholz’.”
Until now, both public broadcasters (on February 9) and RTL (on February 16) have planned debates with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and opposition leader Friedrich Merz (CDU) – but Habeck wants to be there too.
There are still other opportunities for Habeck to present himself on TV: he had rejected a one-on-one duel with AfD leader Alice Weidel. On February 13, Scholz, Merz, Habeck, and Weidel will answer questions from the public in a four-person round on ZDF, and there will also be a large round with all the leading candidates of the parties represented in the Bundestag on ARD and ZDF on February 20, three days before the election.
