Klitschko: The war destroyed normal life in Kiev.

The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, when asked how life is in the Ukrainian capital at the moment, said that the population of the city has dropped dramatically since the beginning of Russian aggression in February.

He said: “Before the war, just two months ago, the population of our city was 2.5 million, we are one of the largest cities in Eastern Europe.”

“We now think that half the population – women and children – have already left. “Most of the population is now men who are ready to defend our city.”

Klitschko added that the war had “destroyed normal life”, with the streets of Kiev empty and blocked by people in uniform fighting for Ukraine.

However, he said people want to return to the city.

“The risk of dying here is very high, and that is why my personal advice to anyone who wants to come, please take a little more time and let ‘s see how the situation develops.”
