Thousands Forced Out

According to the federal government, more migrants were deported in 2024 than in the previous year.

A government spokesperson told the “Bild” (Tuesday’s edition) that between January and November 2024, 18,384 people were deported from Germany. This is an increase of about 20 percent compared to the previous year. In the entire year of 2023, 16,430 deportations were carried out.

Before the number of deportations dropped in the first pandemic year of 2020, it was around 22,000 people in 2019. According to the government spokesperson, the “joint efforts of the federal government and the states in the area of repatriations are showing first results”. The approximately 18,000 reported deportations in the past year stand against around 213,000 asylum applications.
