Biden imposes new sanctions on Russia.
The US has today imposed a new set of sanctions on Russia for its ongoing aggression in Ukraine, which is closing its fifth week.
The latest sanctions target operators in the technology sector, in a bid to prevent Moscow from circumventing sanctions.
The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement that it had imposed sanctions on 21 entities and 13 individuals, including the Mikron Joint Stock Company, Russia’s largest manufacturer and exporter of microelectronics and Russia’s largest chip maker.
The Treasury also expanded sanctions authorities to include the aerospace, maritime and electronics sectors of the Russian economy.
The measure allows Washington to impose sanctions on any person or entity determined to operate in those sectors, the Treasury said. Thursday’s move also targeted “malicious cyber actors.”
