AfD Leader to Discuss Future of Germany with Elon Musk on X Platform
The leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel, will engage in a live discussion with Elon Musk, the owner of the X platform, in January. Weidel confirmed the meeting in a tweet on Friday afternoon, writing in both English and German: “Mark your calendars: On January 9 at 7 pm, the announced Space with Elon Musk and me on X will take place. We’re looking forward to the conversation and, above all, to many listeners!”
Earlier, Weidel’s spokesperson, Daniel Tapp, had announced the meeting to the German Press Agency (dpa) in Berlin, stating that the central themes of the discussion would be freedom of opinion and the AfD’s vision for a sustainable Germany.
Weidel is set to be officially elected as the AfD’s chancellor candidate at the party’s convention in Riesa over the coming weekend.
Musk, a South African-born entrepreneur, had expressed his support for the AfD in a guest article in the Springer publication Welt am Sonntag, calling the party the “last spark of hope” for the country. The political and media mainstream has since been outraged by the “interference in the election” and is demanding stricter regulation of the X platform.
