The German Association of Cities and Municipalities (DStGB) demands “a fundamental change in federal, state, and local politics”.
“We are demanding a binding 2035 agenda” said DStGB President Uwe Brandl on Friday in Berlin. This should “be developed jointly by all state levels, including the municipal level” he added.
The “2035 Agenda” should, according to the municipalities, include a “binding task and expenditure critique combined with a consistent deregulation” as well as a budget-dependent prioritization of tasks. Moreover, tasks that are transferred from the federal government to the municipalities should also be fully financed by the federal government, Brandl demands.
Furthermore, the Association of Cities and Municipalities is advocating for an “investment offensive”. This could have a stabilizing effect, especially in the public sector and the building sector. At the same time, the DStGB President is demanding a “reorientation” of social spending.
