The General Public Prosecutor’s Office in Naumburg has taken over the investigations into the attack in Magdeburg with immediate effect. The investigation is being conducted because of “suspicion of murder in five cases and attempted murder in the form of a dangerous bodily injury in 200 cases through a mass shooting on the Christmas market in Magdeburg”, the authority announced on Monday.
Initially, the proceedings were being handled by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Magdeburg. “The General Public Prosecutor of Saxony-Anhalt holds the takeover necessary and justified due to the scope of the case, particularly the high extent of the violation of legal interests and the significance extending beyond the borders of Saxony-Anhalt”, as it was stated.
The proceedings now carry the file number 111 Js 9/24 GenStA Naumburg. It was expected that the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office might also take over the proceedings after the incident.
