Germany has destroyed an additional 64.1 million COVID vaccine doses in 2024, according to a report by “Business Insider” citing the Center for Pandemic Vaccine and Therapeutics, a subsidiary of the Paul Ehrlich Institute.
The total number of destroyed COVID vaccine doses has thus increased to almost 200 million, following the disposal of around 132 million doses last year. One reason for the disposal is the expiration date of the vaccine.
“Around 145,000 euros in costs are incurred for the destruction of expired COVID vaccine doses from 2022 onwards” a spokesperson for the Center for Pandemic Vaccine and Therapeutics told the portal.
