Germany’s construction industry saw a 5.6% increase in real orders in October 2024, compared to September, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The increase was observed in both the civil engineering and building construction sectors, with a 5.6% rise in each.
Compared to the same month in 2023, the real, calendar-adjusted orders in the construction industry decreased by 1.5%. The nominal orders, however, were 3% higher. For the first ten months of 2024, the calendar-adjusted orders in the construction industry decreased by 1.9% in real terms and by 0.2% in nominal terms, compared to the same period in the previous year.
The real turnover in the construction industry increased by 1.7% in October compared to the same month in the previous year, according to the statisticians. The nominal turnover rose by 4.1% to €10.8 billion. The turnover in building construction decreased by 2.9% in real terms (nominal: -1.1%) in October, while it increased by 6.5% in real terms (nominal: 9.5%) in the civil engineering sector.
For the first ten months of 2024, the turnover in the construction industry decreased by 1% in real terms, but increased by 0.5% in nominal terms, compared to the same period in the previous year. Within the construction industry, the turnover in building construction decreased by 5.8% in real terms, while it increased by 1.6% in the civil engineering sector. The number of people employed in the construction industry decreased by 0.5% in October compared to the same month in the previous year.
