Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) remains the most popular politician in Germany. Forty-six percent of those surveyed in the “Politikerranking” a yearly poll conducted by the opinion research institute Insa for the “Bild am Sonntag” said they would like to see the SPD politician have a significant influence in German politics in the new year, a four percent increase from the previous year.
Behind Pistorius is Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU), who, like last year, is the second most popular at 38 percent. Sahra Wagenknecht, the leader of the Basic Budget (BSW), and Friedrich Merz, the CDU chairman, take the third and fourth spots with 32 percent each, followed by AfD leader Alice Weidel, who made the biggest leap, rising from 11th to 5th place.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has a 2-point increase in popularity, now at 24 percent. According to the survey, 28 percent of those questioned would like to see Economy Minister Robert Habeck have a significant role, a one-point increase, while former Finance Minister Christian Lindner’s popularity decreased by one point to 27 percent. The least popular is Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, who lost nine points and now has the support of only 19 percent of the respondents.
The Insa institute surveyed 1,005 people from December 18 to 19, 2024.
