SPD’s faction leader Dirk Wiese has warned against drawing hasty conclusions about the motives of the suspected attacker in Magdeburg, following the alleged assault. “Now it’s a matter of waiting for the investigations to unfold. It appears that the situation is more complex than initially assumed” Wiese told the Rheinische Post.
The suspected profile of the man from Saudi Arabia on the X/Twitter platform suggests that the man may not have had Islamic motives. The profile portrays him rather as a sympathizer of the AfD or Elon Musk.
“What a heinous crime. My thoughts are with the victims and the injured” Wiese said. “Also with the emergency and rescue teams, who are confronted with a dramatic situation. It’s right that the police show a stronger presence over the weekend and, in light of the New Year, re-examine their security concepts once more” the interior policy expert added.
