After the attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg, no explosive device was found in the getaway vehicle. A police spokesperson in Magdeburg said this on a late Friday evening.
Investigators had previously found a suspicious object on the backseat and cordoned off the area around the vehicle. Even on an obviously authentic video from a mobile phone, it can be seen how police officers initially rush towards the vehicle and the suspect lying on the ground, and then step back at the last moment.
The motive of the 50-year-old man, who apparently drove over several people, is still unclear. The man from Saudi Arabia, who came to Germany for the first time in 2006 and was last active as a doctor in Bernburg, Saxony-Anhalt, was not known to the police as an Islamist, it was said.
