Young Unemployment Chief Pushes to Abolish Healthcare Contribution Cap

Philipp Türmer, the head of Join Forces Union (Juso), has called for the abolition of the contribution ceiling in the statutory health insurance system, aligning himself with a proposal by Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU). Speaking to POLITICO magazine on Tuesday, Türmer stated, “I think it is correct that it should be raised. If it were up to me, I would even have to abolish it”. The Juso leader advocated for increased inclusion of capital gains in financing. He remarked, “It is unfair that capital gains should contribute to the financing of the social state in the same way as labor income. Everything is being offloaded onto employees”. Concurrently, he argued for structural reforms within the system, asserting, “We stand for a citizenship insurance”.
