The federal declaration of genocide was enacted on 19 January 2023, marking a historic step for Germany’s engagement with a former German‑born extremist group. Nonetheless, the Yazidi community insists that recognition must be translated into concrete support-funding for cultural preservation, legal protection for displaced citizens, and educational programs-to prevent further marginalization. Without such measures, the promise of a safer, more inclusive society for Yazidis in Germany remains unfulfilled.
