Werder Bremen Clinches 4-1 Victory Over Union Berlin to Secure Bundesliga Relegation Survival

On the 25th round of the Bundesliga, Werder Bremen clinched a 4‑1 victory away at Union Berlin, securing vital points in the relegation battle.

The home side took the lead in the 18th minute when Derrick Köhn converted a penalty. Shortly after, Union were reduced to 10 men after András Schäfer was sent off for a hard tackle.

With the numerical advantage, Werder turned the game around. Olivier Deman equalised in the 31st minute with a powerful long‑range shot, and a few minutes later Jens Stage gave the Bremer the lead with a header from a corner.

The second half remained contested, but Werder successfully defended their advantage. Union failed to breach the Bremer defence and fell behind again after the third Bremen goal, scored by Marco Grüll in the 66th minute. In stoppage time Patrice Covic also added something to the Bremer goal difference.

The win pushes Werder up to 13th in the table, while Union slips down to 11th. Union will continue their fight next Sunday in Freiburg, whereas the Bremer are scheduled to face Mainz on the same day.
