German Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer appears to be taking action following an alleged antisemitic incident at the Berlinale. According to Bild’s Thursday edition, he intends to relieve Tricia Tuttle-CEO of the festival and an American national-of her duties.
The newspaper refers to “cultural circles” as the source of its information. It says Weimer is responding to an incident that occurred last weekend. At the award ceremony, director Abdallah Alkhatib reportedly accused the federal government of being a “partner of genocide” in the Gaza Strip.
Bild further reports that Weimer has called an extraordinary meeting of the governing bodies of “Kulturveranstaltungen des Bundes in Berlin GmbH” (KBB), the organization responsible for the Berlinale, for tomorrow Thursday. The agenda is said to include Tuttle’s dismissal.
