Weimar Triangle Reaffirms Resolve for Durable Ukraine Peace on Fourth Anniversary of Russian Invasion

On the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Poland-Johann Wadephul, Jean‑Noël Barrot, and Radosław Sikorski-stated in a joint editorial for the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (FAZ) that they will not change course.

“We must forge a peace that is lasting and just. Ukraine can only achieve that peace from a position of strength” the ministers wrote. “Therefore, Europe’s commitment to support remains unwavering, and we will keep increasing pressure on Russia”.

They called for the continued freezing of billions of euros in Russian assets, reaffirmed support for Ukraine’s eventual EU membership, and demanded a special tribunal to hold war criminals accountable.

The trio also noted that Europe has adapted to the threat. “After four years of war, Ukraine is no longer the same, and Europe has changed too. It is now stronger, more resilient, and its commitment to freedom is clearer and more resolute”.
