Warken Calls for Compromise on Health Insurance Savings Plan

Federal Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU) urged the governing coalition to demonstrate willingness to compromise on the planned savings measures for health insurers.

“Of course the SPD will not agree with everything in one place, the Union faction may object to other points” Warken told RTL and ntv. “And everyone has to move a little”. She added that the parties had agreed not to bar individual measures outright. “We need a single, coherent package. It must not be a patchwork of cherry‑picked proposals that favour one side or the other” the minister said.

Warken said she would submit a balanced proposal that is internally harmonised within the cabinet. “I am confident we can bring the coalition parties on board and present something that is acceptable for both sides” she said.

She acknowledged that discussions on particular points will occur. “But there are no wish lists now. The package has to be coherent” she added. “To make it happen, everyone will have to rethink some of their positions and be ready to compromise”.
