The chair of the German‑Ukrainian Parliamentary Group, Green Party member Robin Wagener, is urging German participation in a special tribunal to prosecute Russian war crimes in Ukraine. He said in the POLITICO “Berlin Playbook” podcast that Germany, as the EU’s strongest country, bears a special responsibility, and that protecting international law requires criminal accountability for such crimes.
Wagener stressed that a tribunal is more than symbolic. “The international community must not tolerate the systematic violation of human rights and international law” he said. He also cited investigations by the International Criminal Court and Ukrainian authorities.
On the anniversary of the Bucha massacre, he warned against normalizing ties with Moscow. “We must stop fantasizing about normal relations with that regime and continue to support Ukraine” he added.
