VfL Wolfsburg Parts Ways With Head Coach Daniel Bauer

VfL Wolfsburg, the struggling Bundesliga club, has apparently terminated the contracts of head coach Daniel Bauer and chief executive Peter Christiansen with immediate effect, according to information cited by “Kicker” on Sunday. Bauer, who had only been promoted to head coach in December 2025, is to be succeeded by Dieter Hecking, who previously managed the team from 2013 to 2016. Hecking will take on the task of steering the club away from its first ever Bundesliga relegation.

The Wolfsburg side currently sits in second‑to‑last place. They trail the relegation cutoff in 16th position by two points, but both Bremen and FC St. Pauli have each played one match fewer. In the second half of the season the Wolfsburgers secured only two points.
