Last year, the cost of many classic Valentine’s Day presents rose noticeably for consumers. According to the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), prices for chocolates climbed 17.8 % from 2024 to 2025, while cut flowers saw a 5.3 % increase.
Those who prefer a night out over giving chocolate or flowers also spent more. Dining out-encompassing restaurants, cafés, bars, and similar venues-surged 3.6 % over the same period, compared with a 2.2 % rise in overall consumer prices.
Looking further back, the trend is even steeper. From 2020 to 2025, chocolates became 41.7 % pricier, cut flowers rose 38.2 %, and food‑and‑drink venues experienced a 31.8 % increase. During that span, consumer prices as a whole jumped 21.9 %.
