According to Jürgen Hardt, an external affairs expert for the CDU parliamentary group, further talks are anticipated between the warring parties following the US President Donald Trump’s extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Thursday, Hardt stated that he expects the negotiations to continue in the near future, viewing the extended ceasefire as a necessary prerequisite for such discussions. He emphasized that “as long as negotiations are taking place, arms should remain silent”.
The CDU politician also advised that the leaders in Tehran should proceed cautiously, noting that Iran remains fragile both politically and militarily. Hardt added that, just like the US and Israel, Iran has the potential to achieve significant positive negotiating outcomes that would be impossible to attain while hostilities continue.
