Uniper Works Council Demands Federal Government Listing for Privatization

The Uniper Works Council has directed its demands to the federal government, insisting that if the company is to be privatized, the chosen method must be a return to the stock exchange. Martin Geilhorn, chairman of the Corporate Works Council representing “Rheinische Post” stated that the council categorically rejects any off-exchange sale. Geilhorn emphasized that they will continue to vocally push for a Re-IPO, arguing that Uniper’s independence is crucial for adequately protecting the rights and interests of their employees. Although the federal government has recently commented on potential processes, the council’s view regarding co-determination at Uniper remains unchanged. For context, Uniper employs 7,000 people in total, with 2,950 of them based in Düsseldorf.
