The Union (CDU) argues that cyclists should be subject to a stricter blood‑alcohol limit and also calls for higher fines.
Traffic politician Christoph Ploß told the “Rheinische Post” on Saturday that it must not be possible to ride a bicycle while completely drunk without facing consequences.
He added that such riding endangers pedestrians and other road users, and that the limit for cyclists should be lowered considerably.
Ploß further said that penalties for drunken cycling need to be tightened, advocating higher fines for drunk “Rambo” cyclists-those who ride recklessly.
A recent survey commissioned by the German Road Safety Council shows that a majority of respondents support a stricter blood‑alcohol limit for cyclists.
