Leading figures within the Union parliamentary group argue that the planned income tax reform represents the best opportunity for further tax relief and boosting the German economy.
Fritz Güntzler, the faction’s spokesperson for finance policy, told the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers that the goal is to increase “performance incentives”. He stated that, aiming to boost Germany’s economic dynamism, the Union is advocating for tax cuts for both businesses and citizens, in addition to improving general economic frameworks. Güntzler also emphasized that a new economic impetus would also benefit the Länder and municipalities. Therefore, according to him, the priority should be to implement the income tax reform, complemented by existing infrastructure projects and bureaucratic reduction.
Steffen Bilger, the CDU/CSU parliamentary director, reinforced this message, explaining that the coalition must continue efforts to revive the economy. Regarding the planned income tax reform, Bilger specified that the current focus should be on targeted relief measures for small and medium-income earners, particularly concerning income tax. He concluded that while the coalition has fundamentally agreed on these points, the next crucial step is developing a concrete implementation roadmap.
