Union and AfD Tied Again at Insa While CDU CSU and SPD Slightly Behind in Voter Favoritism

The poll, taken from January 30 to February 2 2026 among 2,006 eligible voters, shows a slight uptick for the Union and the SPD in voter sentiment.

– The CDU/CSU now sits at 26 % of the electorate’s preference, one percentage point higher than last week.
– The SPD is at 15.5 %, another whole point above its previous level.
– The AfD holds firm at 26 %, matching the Union for the first time in roughly three quarters.
– The Greens remain unchanged at 11.5 %.
– The Left has slipped half a point to 10 %.
– The BSW is at 4 %, down 0.5 % from before.
– The FDP’s support fell by one percentage point to 3 %, still well below the five‑per‑cent threshold.

Combining the Union and SPD gives 41.5 %, which would fall short of a majority. Even a coalition of SPD, Greens, and Left would only reach 37 %. Therefore, the Union and SPD would still need an additional partner-most likely the Greens or the Left-to secure a governing majority.

Polling chief Hermann Binkert of “Insa” noted:

> “The Union and the AfD are tied in voter favouritism. In terms of election outcome preferences, the Union is ahead: almost every second person wants the Union either to lead the government or to co‑rule. Only about every third person favours the AfD”.

This reflects the current public mood as captured in the snapshot of early 2026.
