Two Suspects Arrested in Bavaria On Espionage Charges

Bavaria police have arrested two men suspected of engaging in espionage activities for sabotage purposes. According to reports from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office, the investigation is being managed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Munich.

The two suspects, identified as a 43-year-old Ukrainian and a 45-year-old Latvian, were intercepted on April 12, 2026, during a routine traffic checkpoint on the federal autobahn 6 near Neuendettelsau. During the stop, officers discovered and seized a variety of suspicious materials, including forged identification documents, cameras, a drone, GPS trackers, radio equipment, mobile phones, and SIM cards. Authorities suspect that the men’s activities were carried out under the instruction of a foreign organization or establishment.

Due to the fact that the two accused cannot prove a fixed residence in Germany, the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office has issued warrants, and both men are currently being held in custody. No further details have been released to the public at this time because the investigation remains ongoing.
