Donald Trump said he had an “extensive” phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He told reporters that the two leaders discussed a range of critical issues, from trade and military affairs to Trump’s planned trip to China in April. The discussion also covered Taiwan, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the current situation in Iran.
Trump explained that a major focus of the call was U.S.-China trade relations. The presidents talked about China’s purchases of U.S. oil and gas and the possibility that China would buy more agricultural products. China agreed to lift its soybean import targets to 20 million tonnes for the current season and 25 million tonnes for the next.
He added that the U.S. relationship with China-and his personal rapport with Xi-are “extremely good”. Both sides, according to Trump, recognize the importance of maintaining these connections.
