After the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, U.S. President Donald Trump said the new Iranian leadership was signaling a willingness to negotiate. Speaking to “The Atlantic”, Trump confirmed that he had agreed to a conversation and plans to speak with the remaining Iranian leaders. He faulted the Iranian side for waiting too long to engage in talks.
When asked when the talks would take place, Trump declined to give a specific timetable, noting that some of the Iranian negotiators involved over the past weeks were no longer alive. He added that Iranians should have acted sooner if they wanted to reach an agreement.
Earlier on Saturday, Trump released a video message urging Iranians to rise against the current regime. He said the moment had arrived to take control of their own destiny and build a prosperous future.
